I’ve seen Gareth Evans’ blistering Indonesian action movie a few times before, but on discovering that last night’s dinner guests were in the mood for a movie and unaware of the film, I was only too happy to watch it again for their benefit. Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Joe Taslim all make an instant impact in this no-holds-barred combination of action, suspense and ferocious martial arts. A SWAT team finds itself trapped in a rundown Jakarta apartment complex by a vicious drug baron and they are forced to fight their way out. As their numbers dwindle and ammunition supplies run low, guns are traded for knives, which in turn make way for fists and feet. The result is one of the most shamelessly exciting, bloody action movies in a long time.
