What Richard Did
Lenny Abrahamson’s low budget but nicely pitched Irish drama does a great job of creating believable, likable characters who then fall foul of a second’s intervention from fate, luck or judgement. However, while the performances are strong – especially our titular anti-hero Jack Reynor – the story never goes quite far enough to warrant the lengthy build-up. Harsh perhaps, as the film certainly doesn’t fail at what it sets out to achieve, but could have aimed higher, as everything that is up there on screen suggests that they could have asccomplished far more than the film’s ultimately rather timid ambitions.
