manila claws light
Restored classic of 70s Filipino cinema tells the story of an innocent village lad (Bembel Roco) who comes to Manila in search of his sweetheart (Hilda Koronel), who was conned into a live of sexual slavery. Julio suffers his own hardships, however, encountering extreme hunger, crooked construction site foremen, gay hustlers and more as he traverses the big bad city at night. In many ways foreshadowing the poverty porn fad of recent years, the film also revels in the sleazy side of the city nightlife, and while not explicit, has a similar vibe to Hong Kong films of the period.
