The Stuff
Larry Cohen’s ambitious horror satire on consumerism is far from his best work, but there’s still plenty to enjoy in his high concept tale of an alien white ooze that tastes great but eats you from the outside. Michael Moriarty makes for a goofy lead as industrial spy Mo Rutherford, who is hired to sic over the secret behind “The Stuff”. The results are part-Invasion of the Body Snatchers, part-The Blob, but unfortunately not as successful as either. That said, there are some excellent practical make up effects, and the tone is fun throughout, even if the film is rather uneven.
