Gezhi Town

In the wartime action drama Gezhi Town, set in a remote mountainous region of China, a group of desperate commoners and untrained soldiers band together to fend off a platoon of heavily armed Japanese forces .

By championing the heroism and sacrifices of ordinary civilians, and shifting focus away from patriotic rhetoric to intimate character dynamics, the film proves surprisingly entertaining.

The increasingly ubiquitous Peng Yuchang, who can also be seen on Hong Kong screens right now in Unexpected Family and The Fire Raven, stars as Xiao Yan, a young platoon leader in charge of a Swiss-made anti-aircraft gun.

what a bizarre review. The main character of this movie is Mo Dexian, you know, like the title? Dexian Jinzhi.

why are you pushing a support actor as the main lead? What is this mess.

Hi Peggy, thanks for commenting, but it sounds like you didn’t read my full review. It made sense to highlight actor Peng Yuchang first as he has 3 different films playing here in Hong Kong all at the same time – more newsworthy. If you follow the link to the SCMP you can read my full review, which obviously, is more focused on Dexian.
