Dead-End Job

In Dead-End Job, Lee Jae-wook (Alchemy of Souls) stars as a desperate loser who takes a series of dangerous, increasingly bizarre part-time gigs to escape crippling debt. Netflix’s latest high-concept K-drama series blends humour, horror and social commentary into a kinetic, if tonally wayward, thrill ride with an intriguing supernatural twist. The first four episodes have just premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, ahead of its streaming debut later this month.

Fans of Squid Game will immediately see the parallels between that epoch-defining series and Dead-End Job, a directorial debut from Kim Da-min, writer of 2024’s A Killer Paradox. In both shows, ordinary citizens at the end of their tether volunteer for get-rich-quick schemes with potentially lethal consequences.
